22 day camper tour Namibia Windhoek to Windhoek


Get to know the various Namibia with this 22 day camper trip. During this adventurous journey you will visit the highlights of Namibia such as the Fish River Canyon (the world's second largest canyon), the wild horses in the desert near Aus, the Red Dunes of the Sossusvlei, the rugged wilderness of the Namib Desert, the historic town of Swakopmund and looking for the BIG FIVE in the Etosha National Park.

PROGRAM

Day 1 Windhoek
Welcome at the airport of Windhoek by a representative of the campermaatschappij and transfer to the rental depot where you receive the camper. Departure from the rental depot and drive on your own to the campsite near Windhoek. Rest of the day at leisure to rest from the trip or to explore the center of Windhoek. Overnight at the campsite near Windhoek.

Day 2 Windhoek - Mariën valley (approx. 285 km // 4 - 4 ½ hours drive excluding stops)
Departure from Windhoek and drive south to Mariëntal. Along the way you get a very good impression of the natural beauty of Namibia. Overnight at the campsite near the Hardap dam.

Day 3 Mariën Valley - Keetmanshoop (about 230 km // 3 ½ - 4 hours drive excluding stops)
Today you drive further south to the small, rural village of Keetmanshoop. Close to Keetmanshoop you will find the "Quiver Tree Forest" where about 300 Alwyn trees with their smooth bark and yellow flowers stand out against the barren desert. Overnight at a campsite near Keetmanshoop.

Day 4 Keetmanshoop - Fish River Canyon (approx. 140 km // 2 - 2 ½ hours drive excluding stops)
Departure from Keetmanshoop and drive south to the third largest canyon in the world, the Fish River Canyon. Tonight's campground is located near the Fish River Canyon.

Day 5 Fish River Canyon
Full day at leisure to explore the area. Tonight's campground is located near the Fish River Canyon.

Day 6 Fish River Canyon - Aus (about 265 km // 3 ½ - 4 hours drive excluding stops)
Departure from the Fish River Canyon and drive west to the village of Aus. Near this village is also the famous "Ghost Village" Kolmanskop and the "Desert Horses". Tonight's camp is near Aus.

Day 7 Aus - Namgorab Mountains (about 210 km // 3 - 3 ½ hours drive excluding stops)
Today you will meet the desert of Namibia and visit the Naukluft National Park. Throughout the day you will travel through beautiful sandy roads, sometimes rough, through the desert to Betta's Camp.

Day 8 Namgorab Mountains - Sesriem (about 140 km // 2 - 2 ½ hours drive excluding stops)
Departure from the Namgorab Mountains and drive to a special place in the desert, the "town" of Sesriem. From Sesriem you can visit the famous red dunes of the Sossusvlei. Overnight at the campsite near Sesriem.

Day 9 Sesriem - Solitaire (about 95 km // 1 ½ - 2 hours drive excluding stops)
Departure from Sesriem and drive to the town of Solitair. Solitair is known for the Dutch filmmaker Ton der Lee, who lived here for 2 years and described his adventures in the book "Solitair". Overnight at the Solitair campsite.

Day 10 Solitair - Swakopmund (about 270km // 4 - 4 ½ hours drive excluding stops)
Drive your last day today on the dirt roads. Drive through the Naukluft National Park to the coastal town of Swakopmund. In Swakopmund you can very well notice the German influences on the historic buildings, the beaches and the shops. Overnight at the campsite in Swakopmund.

Day 11 Swakopmund
Day at leisure in and around Swakopmund. You can take a rest day or choose from one of the many excursion possibilities and activities that are offered such as: sea fishing, quad biking through the dunes, hot air ballooning, a boat trip, a sightseeing flight and much more. Overnight at the campsite in Swakopmund.

Day 12 Swakopmund - Omaruru (about 265 km // 4 - 4 ½ hours drive excluding stops)
Through a rough desert stepping area you travel to Omaruru where you can swim and cool off from the hot Namibian sun. Overnight at the campsite in Omaruru.

Day 13 Omaruru - Outjo (about 245 km // 3 ½ - 4 hours drive excluding stops)
Departure from Omaruru and drive through the interior of Namibia to Outjo. Overnight at the campsite of the Ombinda Country Lodge.

Day 14 Outjo
Full day to enjoy the surroundings. Overnight at the campsite of the Ombinda Country Lodge.

Day 15 Outjo - Etosha National Park (approx. 280 km // 4 ½ - 5 hours drive excluding stops)
Today you drive on partly unpaved roads through deserted nature reserves to the famous Etosha nature park. You have 2 days to explore the northeastern part and the salt pans. Overnight at the campsite of the Okaukuejo rest camp

Day 16 Etosha (about 70 km // 2 - 3 hours drive excluding stops)
Day at leisure in the Etosha National Park. Overnight at the campsite of the Halali rest camp

Day 17 Etosha (about 70 km // 2 - 3 hours drive excluding stops)
Today you have the entire day to drive from the Halali rest camp to the Namutoni rest camp. On the way a good chance to see large numbers of game. You can also visit the "Sprokieswoud", a collection of whimsical African moringo trees. Overnight at the campsite of the Namutoni rest camp.

Day 18 Etosha - Grootfontein (about 230 km // 3 - 4 hours drive excluding stops)
Departure from the Etosha National Park and drive to the town of Tsumeb. Time to explore Tsumeb. In Tsumeb you can visit the mining museum, St. Barbara church, and the Tsumeb Arts and Crafts Center for fun souvenirs. Then continue to Grootfontein. Overnight at a campsite near Grootfontein.

Day 19 Grootfontein
Day at leisure in and around Grootfontein. An excursion can be made to a nearby San (bushman) village, game drives are made, walks on the farm or lazy by the pool. Overnight at a campsite near Grootfontein.

Day 20 Grootfontein - Otjiwarongo (about 270 km // 3 ½ - 4 ½ hours drive excluding stops)
Departure from Grootfontein and drive to Otjiwarongo. Rest of the day at leisure to make an excursion to the Waterberg Plateau or the nearby Cheeta shelter. Overnight at a campsite near Otjiwarongo.

Day 21 Otjiwarongo - Okahandja (about 175 km // 2 ½ - 3 hours drive excluding stops)
Departure from Otjiwarongo and drive to Okahandja. Here the last souvenirs can be bought at a nice local market. Overnight at a campsite near Okahandja.

Day 22 Okahandja - Windhoek (about 1250 km // 2 - 2 ½ hours drive excluding stops)
Today the last day of your stay in Namibia. In the afternoon, return the camper to the rental company and a transfer to the airport of Windhoek.

Extension of the journey:
If you prefer a longer or shorter stay in Africa than that is possible. Of course, you can also tailor a "tailor-made" trip to your personal requirements. If you pass on your wishes to us, we would like to make a nice quotation for you.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

Camper:
Type Discoverer-4 (Iveco 35S14 - 2.3 lt 16V turbodiesel) (up to 4 people) or in 5 or 6 people the type Discoverer-6 (Iveco Daily 35S14 2.3lt turbodiesel) (up to 6 persons) with air conditioning and radio / cassette player including CDW midi insurance and unlimited mileage. For photos, description of the camper and rental conditions see our website under motorhome rental. To rent a motor home you must be in possession of a valid driving license and a valid International driving license (available from A.N.W.B.). Additional costs such as the excess amount and any extras you want to rent must be paid by credit card. Visa and Euro Mastercard are accepted.

Driver:
Driver must be at least 21 years old and have at least a valid driver's license.

Participation:
All ages.

Visa:
If you are in possession of a Dutch / Belgian passport that is valid for at least 90 days after returning from the trip, Namibia does not require a visa. However, there must still be enough empty pages next to each other in the passport for the required stamps. If you are in possession of a Nationality other than the Dutch or Belgian, then check with the Consulate of the countries concerned. AfrikaOnline does not provide visa. For information you can go to the website of the visa service: www.visum.nl. If you do not have a valid passport and / or travel documents during the trip then the consequences for the person in question are for your own account. (changes subject to change). If you travel with children under 18 to or via South Africa, you must be in possession of a copy of the birth certificate. If you travel as a single parent or simply with your underage child, you must also be in possession of a consent form from the other parent. Health conditions:
Anyone with good health can participate in this trip.

Luggage:
Suitcase or travel bag (with the space in the camper is best to carry the luggage in a travel bag) with a maximum of 20 kg pp and 1 carry bag pp of a maximum of 6 kg. If you want to take your golf bag with you, you must inform us of this when booking the trip so that we can request it from the airline. As a rule, you can take 1 golf bag of a maximum of 12 kg per person.
