Banks and money matters:
With the exception of Nairobi (from 09.00 to 15.00) and Jomo Kenyatta Airport (24 hours a day), banks in Kenya are generally open on business days only in the morning. All major hotels and most lodges have a permit
to exchange foreign currency and traveler's checks. There are several ATMs in Nairobi (but keep in mind that these do not always work). Travelers checks in US dollars, credit cards (VISA, Mastercard and Barclay) are generally accepted. American Express is not accepted. Cash only in US dollars and in small denominations. The local currency is the Kenyan shilling.

Health and safety
The sun in Kenya is warmer and more intense that you can imagine. Even on a cloudy day you can burn ugly. A good sunscreen cream (at least factor 30) is therefore indispensable as well as a good sun hat and sunglasses. Drink plenty but never out of the tap, but rather buy bottled water. In most hotels and lodges, drinking water will be offered in the room.

Hospitals and medical care
If you have visited a country where Geel Koort occurs before your visit to Kenya, vaccination against it is mandatory. There are small field hospitals spread over Kenya. Larger hospitals are only available in Nairobi and Mombassa. It is therefore important to inquire about the recommended vaccinations and malaria prophylaxis well before departure. It is also wise to put together a small travel pharmacy with, among other things, imodium against diarrhea, ORS, etc. (also look at www.gezondheidsnet.nl/reisapotheek

The Flying Doctors Society of Africa offers a temporary membership for tourists for a small fee. In return, the "members" receive free transport by air to a hospital or medical center in the event of a serious accident or serious illness during the safari.

the best way to prevent malaria is to ensure that you are not bitten. Wear long trousers and shirst with long sleeves in the twilight (morning and evening) and use the anti-mule DEET on ankles, hands and neck. In addition, it is strongly recommended to take a good malaria prophylaxis. Inform yourself about this at your GGD.

It is forbidden in Kenya to take photographs of the President, the police, soldiers, prisons and airports. If you want to take a picture of the local population, it is advisable to ask for permission in advance. For you it may be a precious memory of your holiday but many people in Kenya are superstitious and do not want you to take a picture of them. Keep your camera in a stop-free bag or container.

Transport during the trip is by special safari minibus with folding hatch i the roof to take pictures. Comfortable travel and excellent to experience game drives. If only 2 people travel on the relevant dates, it may be that a different, smaller type of car is used. For an additional charge of EUR 230, - per person it is possible to travel instead of the safari minibus with a 4x4 safari Landcruiser

Travel - Cancellation insurance:
Closing a trip and cancellation insurance is mandatory. If the insurance is not taken out via AfrikaOnline, the policy numbers of both insurance policies must be communicated in writing to AfrikaOnline within 2 weeks after booking.

This trip is suitable for children and although the distances between the different parks are sometimes on the big side, there is plenty of time to stop and there are interesting things to see along the way. We do recommend, however, that at least 1 adult is required for every child under 16 years of age.
